RECOMMENDED FOR 2-4 PEOPLE
UltaMid 4 – Ultralight Pyramid Tent
SKU: 2-02041-1
IDEAL FOR
- 2-4 People
- Four-Season Expeditions
- Protection from the Elements
- Pairing with Inserts & Ground Cloths
The UltaMid 4 has the dimensions to accommodate a group of four, serve as a basecamp shelter, or provide protection for packrafting, alpine expedition, or bikepacking gear. When it comes to portable shelter, few designs have been as thoroughly time-tested and proven as those built in the pyramid-style. They’re easy to set up, efficiently spacious, and because of things like physics, incredibly capable of providing sanctuary in all but the most extreme weather.
While the remarkable 1.44 lbs. weight of the UltaMid 4 will be a welcome reduction to any kit’s overall mass, put any concerns to rest that it translates to a sacrifice in durability. The 100% waterproof Dyneema® Composite Fabrics used to build this elegant structure will outlast garden-variety silnylon materials many times over. The Ultamid 4 can be pitched high off the ground or tight to the ground. Set up with adjustable trekking poles or suspend from central peak. UltaMid Inserts, Ultralight Stake Kit, and UltaMid Carbon Fiber Tent Pole sold separately.

Product Reviews and Questions
My new reference tent
As an owner of the UltaMid 2 & looking for some space, the UltaMid 4 has not disappointed 💪
Could not be happier, with no significant increase in size or weight compared to the UltaMid2
Worth it.
Took me a few tries to really get the knack of setting it up, but now that I've got it, I think this is the best tent I've ever owned. I love that I can adjust the height to modify airflow. It's very quick and easy to set up. No more fumbling with lengthy poles in the dark (or packing them around). The tent is so light (including the insert), I barely notice it's in my pack. I'm starting to just leave it in my pack when I'm out for dayhikes. It takes up less room in my pack than a conventional tent , yet it fits me, my fiancée, my two teenaged kids, my dog, and our gear. Snugly, but it fits. Prior to using it in the field, I was concerned that the sloped entryway would result in a wet interior as the door was being opened and closed in the rain, but this hasn't been a problem at all. Good quality titanium spikes and stakes recommended for pegging out in a variety of conditions.
Manufacturer error
I received my Ultimid 4 last week and immediately set it up in the back yard according to the video from hyperlite. It was easy to pitch but the shape didn't seem right. I set it up again in a different spot to see if it was just the slope of the ground. Same thing. The front left of door panel was clearly cut longer than the right. Making it impossible to tension properly. I still had hope and had a one night trip planned. My family took the tent and tried again. Clearly the tent was manufactured out of shape. I love the idea of the design and modularity but the product I received is a poor quality control issue. I have sent 2 emails and filled a warranty request so far with no reply. I will patiently wait and hope for a replacement at not cost to me. My import fees were already outrageous for a tent. And a shelter at this price point should be absolutely flawless so I am definitely concerned about future purchases. I also noticed the edges of seam sealing is very sticky and collects dust. Definitely will become a future issue considering you can't clean those areas. Not really sure what to think right now. Not impressed. On another note my seam sealing on my pods have also failed after normal use and the zippers pop if at all over stuffed. I like my Porter pack but again, the mesh on the detachable pouch has holes from minimal use as well. I truly couldn't picture taking this gear on a committing adventure off trail. I see all the pictures and social media but in reality…
Well thought out product but too fragile
Great attention to the details of this pice of equipment. Adequately houses up to four people. However it is incredibly fragile. I have only used it on about a dozen outings and the zipper has totally failed. There are some stress marks from 🤷🏻♂️ that have left it thread bear in places. I have taken care of this tent because the material is so thin. But it just doesn’t hold up to normal use. If it were cheaper I would probably excuse the lack of durability but with the hefty price of this and the floor/mosquito net I am pretty frustrated. At the end of the day I would not recommend this product.
I find HMG tents and backpacks to be worth every penny
I own UltaMid 2 and UltaMid 4 HMG tents. I believe HMG tents are the perfect combination of low weight, durability, and weather resistant (survivability). I also own the respective inserts with DCF floors which pair well with tents. Design for attachment of inserts to tents makes attaining bathtub shape for insert floor quite easy ... keeping groundwater out when it rains. Achieving bathtub shape for floors of other, non-HMG, tent inserts is not intuitive and takes some extra effort. I also like adjustability of optional HMG tent poles; since I'm not yet hooked on trekking poles.
